Biography[]

Arzon is one of the many knights of Prysmos to answer Merklynn's summons to Iron Mountain, seeking to obtain magical power. At the base of Iron Mountain, Merklynn offers great rewards to those who ascend the mountain and survive its traps. Arzon, travelling with several other knights, attempt to follow Darkstorm, Mortdred and Reekon across a rope bridge. At Darkstorm's order, Mortdred and Reekon cut the bridge, causing Arzon and the knights to fall. Arzon manages to hang onto the bridge remains and tries to climb up, only for it to turn into snakes. Arzon falls to a ledge below with a small tree growing out of it. Darkstorm attempts to taunt Arzon, but the knight manages to fashion a pair of wings from large leaves and fly across the gap. Darkstorm is incensed and orders Mortdred to shoot him down. Mortdred, however, has no bow on him.[1]

As Arzon ascends Iron Mountain, he meets up with the knights Witterquick, Cryotek, and Galadria. The four come across Leoric, Feryl, and Ectar who have been ambushed by Darkstorm and knights loyal to him. Arzon and the others quickly join the fight to even the odds until they are stopped by the arrival of Merklynn who says there is enough magic for all. Inside Merklynn's shrine, he proclaims the fourteen that have survived the "Visionaries," and prepares to bestow upon them magic to help their people. Leoric asks what he wants in exchange for this magic. Merklynn reveals that he will want them to undertake tasks for him when asked. Merklynn presents each knight with a magical totem, earned by their actions in climbing the mountain. Arzon receives the eagle for finding wings when he needed to fly. Those knights with staffs are instructed to dip them into the pool to receive more power. Arzon receives the Power of Knowledge.[1]

Merklynn uses his magic to create a whirlpool, flushing the knights to the bottom of the mountain. As the knights recover, Reekon attempts to steal Witterquick's staff. A small fight starts, but Darkstorm calls his subjects to stop. To the surprise of Ectar and Leoric, Darkstorm then proclaims that magic should be used to preserve peace on Prysmos. Leoric agrees and the two groups go their separate ways.[1]

On his way home, Arzon hears the cries of a maiden in distress. He rescues her, and she shows interest in his Power Staff. She is sceptical when Arzon tells her that it is imbued with great magic, so Arzon summons the Bearer of Knowledge and asks him to tell him all about the maiden. The Bearer reveals the woman is actually the evil knight Virulina. Shedding her disguise, she attacks Arzon.[1]

Notes[]

  • Just like the owl from Leoric's power staff, the Bearer of Knowledge is a seemingly sentient being able to hold conversations as well as just dole out help. And just the owl, he's not above pointing out Arzon's failings.
  • Arzon's toy has an odd asymmetrical raised "stripe" over his left shoulder pad.
